so solutionsWhen you are developing your SEO strategy, there are always be elements that require special dedicated approach. Especially sites like portals may need a different SEO approach than the standard web site.

How you fix these elements will impact the effectiveness of your SEO efforts.

Portals And SEO Problems

Some portals are considered to be spam with the only goal funneling users to other web sites and
content. Many people are still creating portals only for the link building purposes.

Search engines have special filters to detect such spam portals. They can detect abnormal linking, duplicate content, interlinking strategies, and other similar indicators.

Because of that, spam portals are not so effective anymore. So if you are optimizing a site that is a portal, your job will be a little more difficult.

The goal you should follow is to help your visitors achieve a desired result. That could be finding the right product, service, information etc.

If your site is easy to use and relevant, users will return more often, they will bookmark your site, stay longer on your site, turn more pages.

Too many times SEOs focus only on search engines and forget that users are even more important than search engine spiders. In that case you might get more traffic but the conversion rate will be much lower.

You should not create a site that is designed perfectly and nobody is visiting it. All vital elements should be considered. There should be a balance.

The vital element is of course keywords. Rather than having one web site with which to target a broad range of keywords, portals allow you to have many different web sites and each of those websites can have its own set of keywords.

For example, instead of using the keywords like selling houses and building materials on the same page you can create a real-estate portal that will allow you to have separate sites for houses and housing material etc.

This way it is much easier to target for example selling houses in Malibu, renting houses in Malibu on one page than targeting keywords like selling houses in Malibu and selling building material on same page.

There are many other advantages of web portals. Building a portal allows you to have many home pages, which can be optimized for different keywords and each appear in SERPS.

But remember don’t create a spam portal, because your rankings will suffer. Don’t multi link all your sites in the footer section. Try to create smart and relevant cross linking. Create links that will have value for users.

Keep your site design user-friendly and attractive. IF there are elements that will have a negative effect on rankings, remove them.

SEO and Problematic Frames

Frames are very rarely used nowadays. They are sections of a web site with separate urls. They often create problems in site display in different browsers and they create problems with crawlers. Search crawlers cant index frames so it is very important you don’t use them on your site.

Cookies And SEO

Cookies are often very irritating elements. Users sometimes want web sites to be tailored to them, and cookies are able to do that. When user visits your site and customizes some elements, usually design, a small code is placed on his computer’s hard drive.

When he returns on your site that cookie is again accessed and those preferences are executed. When cookies work as they should everything is perfect, but the real problem appears when they don’t.

The problem lies in browsers. Some browsers allow users to set how the cookies will be delivered to them, and some browsers ask users to accept cookie. When this happens, the search engine crawler is stopped in its tracks, and it doesn’t pick back up where it stopped once the cookies are delivered.

Also if the navigation requires cookies, crawler will be unable to index the pages. How do you overcome this issue? The only answer is to code cookies to ensure that the source code is not designed to query the user before the cookie is delivered.
