Why Is Drupal So Fucking Frustrating??

Let me explain why I wrote this article more than a decade ago. Drupal was really weird CMS back then. I think I was using Drupal 5 or 6. I canßt remember. But I was so frustrated because of some features that were lacking. On the other hand Wordpress and even Joomla looked better.

But this was more than a decade ago. Today Drupal 9 is our CMS of choice....It slowly grew and become a working horse in webdesign. It is much more advanced and practical than any other CMS out there. Drupal fixed all those issues of course..it is the best CMS out there in my opinion. It is also not easy to use.

So read the following article with that in mind....

Drupal is not frustrating anymore

All these issues described below are for Drupal 6 version, which is more than 10 years ago. Keep that in mind. All issues are fixed and Drupal 9 is the best CMS out there!

It does not send you an email when somebody responds to your topic in the Drupal forum - Hello it is the 21st Century and still, we have to live with mistakes like that. I mean almost every freaking forum sends you automatic notifications when you get a reply to your forum topic, almost every forum. But not freaking drupal. Drupal sleeps comfortably in its bed, smokes some weed, and thinks of you people. I do not care. Why is there such promotion of Drupal, such hype, seminars, the core team is blabbering all over the internet that Drupal is the best CMS there is? Well, I tell you it is not and it will never be.

Even though if part of MTV uses Drupal it still sucks big time. Probably those guys are considering each minute to switch to another system.

Each blog post does not have an intro. You have to add a special code to create a teaser. Every freaking blog, cms has that option, but Drupal again lies in bed, drinking beer and smoking some weed, and says Fuck you all. Why is it so hard to add a small button to put an article separator as WordPress and Joomla have? Does Drupal really like to piss people off? I mean it is probably an easy task but the core team Drupal morons don’t think that that is necessary. So they added a simple option to trim each of the articles and to set the trim for a custom number of words. This is barbaric!!!!! How dare you. Usually, people have static content not only blog posts that require the whole article to be displayed not only the intro. And if you set a teaser to kick in after a custom number of characters, you will get a trimmed front-page article and it will look silly.

Another thing in Drupal that is bothering me is that there is a link at the bottom of each blog post that is linking to www.domain.com/blog/1 and has the same content as www.domain.com/blog . Even penguins in the north pole are talking about duplicate content and still, Drupal morons put a link to a duplicate page under each of the blog posts.

My conclusion. I am almost done with drupal. There is no way we will see reasonable work by these guys, They are stubborn, lazy, stupid, and have no fucking idea about SEO and proper website optimization for search engines.

Why, o why isn't there a perfect CMS in the world. Each of them has flaws. WordPress is really good, but at the same time too simple, Joomla is getting there but still is not perfect. And Drupal, well I am looking for my shovel to bury that crappy CMS in the deepest hole on the earth. Drupal you have disappointed me big time.

I totally agree, Drupal sucks giant fat fu**ing cock. I use pivotx and create custom smarty php modules. The interface is so much easier to use and is more powerful IMO. Only cocksucking faggot gutter whore deuchebags like that piece of shit limp dick software.

omg, i though i have the foulest language in the world, ha ha ha I love Drupal now, it is very complex CMS, and beside Joomla my favorite one, but from time to time it makes ma crazy

Sorry if I offended you by my last comment, but something I saw on the Drupal website got me fired up: "... some of the newcomers are shocked. Others tuck their tails between their legs and shuffle back to reading APIs and lurking in the forums until they understand things." I tried to use Drupal a couple of times, but the time investment required to learn the CMS just isn't worth it when you compare it to Krang or something similar. Why spend time learning something mediocre when you can invest a bit more effort and have the knowledge of a much more powerful piece of software? Besides, I can always tell when I'm visiting a Drupal-based website by the lame-ass themes they have, the completely useless URLs, and the totally gay generic content blocks on the front pages. You shouldn't be able to tell which CMS (if any at all) is being used by a website.

I agree with you, Drupal is not easy to learn, I chose it because it was voted very good on some CMS voting site that I forgot what it was. I am only using Drupal or Joomla, but more often Joomla for complex sites. You are saying that urls are bad, but you can set them yourself, you can name each url how you want it to be. I have never heard about Krang and the one you are using. I use Wordpress too, but it is very simple compared to Drupal and Joomla, I know theese two are not the best, but if you know any CMS that is better I would gladly want to know about it. thanks, you have a great site

http://www.krangcms.com/ Krang is used for the following sites, among others: * Motortrend * Automobile Magazine * Truckin' * Lowrider Magazine * HotRod Magazine * Import Tuner Magazine * Outdoors Best Magazine * Sail Magazine * Stereophile Magazine * Shutterbug Magazine * Slam Online * Powder Magazine * Bike Magazine * Skateboarder Magazine * Surfer Magazine * sg * American Demographics * Ward's Auto http://bricolage.cc/about/sites/ Bricolage's resume kinda speaks for itself. http://pivotx.net/ By far the most simple, probably, its the one I use for my site. Perfect for one or a few weblogs. Just some suggestions.

wow, thanks, i will check krang out and let you know how it compares, Drupal is used by Nasa and Mtv, and that fuck Moby is using it for his site..

That fu**ing deuche codes his own website? What a nerd. Bricolage looks the most promising, I'm doing some development with it right now. I'll give you a link to a beta site in a few days, then you'll see what the fuck is up.

Yes he is a nerd, no that fucker does not know how to code, I think Lullabot made it for him, I checked Krang, but I saw only 3 addons, you see that could be bad. Joomla has around 5000 addons and big forum, also Drupal does.

The problem with addons is that they lead to generic content. Nothing new or novel about them. What I'm saying is that if you just want to create content then go with something simple, like pivotx or wordpress. Otherwise invest the time and use something that you can make exactly the way you want.

Drupal fu**ing sucks... drupal is basicaly good if you have a tiny website and have no clue how to code (php, sql, jsp, html, js) Otherwise its like trying to play guitar with your feet. I'm in a company that has pissed away over 1mil on trying to convert our java cms to a drupal cms, and all I can say is that drupal is like the 'green' movement... its popular because people say it is.. not becuase it is.

1. "Their Forum is super slow, I mean even the snail moves faster. It is not because of the server, but because of the internal code of Drupal." Where is your objective proof of this or benchmark results? How large of a forum are you talking about. How many active users and did you enable other modules? This is a false statement without proof to back it up. 2. "It does not send you email when somebody respond to your topic in Drupal forum." Again there is built in functionality in Drupal that YOU did not explore. Actions, triggers and even additional modules make this a breeze. 3. "Each blog post does not have an intro." Again this is done using either the split page function or using the cck module combined with views. Please do some research next time. On Drupal.org there are plenty of tutorials on this. 4. "Another think in Drupal that is bothering me is that there is a link at the bottom of each blog post that is linking to www.domain.com/blog/1 and has the same content as www.domain.com/blog" This is because you enabled the blog module which is for a multiuser blog site. /Blog is a listing of all blogs from all users. Since you are the only user it looks like duplicate content. Again do your research and learn how to turn the links off if you do not want them. 5. "My conclusion. I am almost done with drupal." Almost? Really sounds like you were done. Why only almost? 6. "Why, o why isn’t there a perfect CMS in the world." There never will be because you are not choosing the right tools for the job. You want one tool to do all jobs. This is not possible and will never be a successful equation. Why not just take the time to learn how to implement a CMS properly? 7."They are stubborn, lazy, stupid and have no fu**ing idea about SEO and proper website optimization for search engines." Seriously can I hire you as my next CEO? This is the type of motivation that gets you everywhere in a community.

Well that was 2 years ago, now Drupal is my favourite CMS, things change, also there is a learning curve that might take some time, I might say I am an Drupal expert now. I ditched that bug infested Joomla and switched to Drupal.

I did not twitter this post, I was really frustrated with Drupal before, the forum speed just sucked so much. Now it is really reliable, but it took 3 years obviously to make me a Drupal fan

just build your own framework and cms if you are capable. drupal sucks because it replaces one SQL query with 3-20 clicks in the backend. very efficient. any cms does it like this and thats what stupid. if i had a choice i would choose expression engine in case i would be a fu**ing non-coding-LaMeaSS

Drupal definately rocks, yes if you load it up with many modules it will get slow but it is free and so advanced copared to other CMS systems. Coding your own thing would cost a person so much money! And why is White House using it, they have kaching, they could use hand coding anytime, but they are not. I am quite dissapointed I wrote this article, but things change. I adore Drupal now.

Drupal isn't the problem, it's the damn module developers who release half-finished projects, distribute them, and then make requests for maintainers to fix their half-written garbage. Some of them even admit that they can't code for shit and need someone else to finish it. I'm a designer more than a developer, and need to count on what this CMS touts as being one of its most dynamic and useful qualities to complete projects. "You get what you pay for" is only an excuse for them to continue producing this crap. I get 80% done with a site only to find that one of its "few" bugs is preventing me from completing it at all. What a fu**ing waste of time.

That is so true' when ever i visit a site no matter how well and how good is design i can always tell is done by drupal gay cms. i have spend one year studying drupal cms just to prove my self wrong so i can say wow drupal is the king of cms but i was wrong i just found out how shit and slow drupal is every time you install a new module you will end up with a new error. drupal is pain in the ass and i wouldn't advice anyone to go for drupal. WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT DOWNLOAD DRUPAL. OTHER WAYS YOU WILL END UP PULLING EVERY SINGLE HAIR. Drupal

I heard mtv was running Drupal. It is funny how people swear at drupal. It only shows your inability to learn it properly. Ofcourse Drupal doesn just give you magic on the first time you take a glance at it. Itś too complex to learn within a day. However.... beat the steep learning curve and you can make anything, any scale.

["admin"]Well that was 2 years ago, now Drupal is my favourite CMS, things change, also there is a learning curve that might take some time, I might say I am an Drupal expert now. I ditched that bug infested Joomla and switched to Drupal. Cool :D see :D

I fking HATE DRUPAL. I'm helping someone turn their HTML template into a Drupal thing, and it has been a total NIGHTMARE. Why do drupal fans act like it is a rite of passage to struggle with drupal? They always say with such pride that drupal isn't for people that want a "perfect site", "it's not simple". It seems like they take pride in it's difficulty. Darnit I want something that is fast, easy, and that doesn't HAVE A LOT OF OPTIONS. I spent at least 30hrs in the last 3 things trying to get drupal to run, but I receive error after error. I see NO value in learning drupal when I can use a simpler CMS... Options are for nerdy gluttons. I'm a marketer-- I need to develop sites in minutes not in weeks.

I've built custom CMS systems that allow significantly simpler user interfaces (IE normal people can use them to edit the site), and still allow the average web programmer to learn how to create modules in a short span of time. Fuck drupal. I've built numerous sites with it now, and the number of fu**ing bullshit problems and fucktard backwards-logic workarounds required to get even the SIMPLEST functionality to work is so fu**ing backwards retarded that I question the sanity of those who choose to use this steaming pile of dog shit that passes for a CMS.

["Billy"]Drupal fu**ing sucks... drupal is basicaly good if you have a tiny website and have no clue how to code (php, sql, jsp, html, js) Otherwise its like trying to play guitar with your feet. I'm in a company that has pissed away over 1mil on trying to convert our java cms to a drupal cms, and all I can say is that drupal is like the 'green' movement... its popular because people say it is.. not becuase it is. I could not have said it better myself. I hope you don't mind if I quote you.

whats wrong with taxonomy, yes Joomla is infested with bugs, I am afraid to use it for future projects

I totally agree that the taxonomy sucks. I thought it would get better with age, but even on D7, it is still very illogical in the way it works. Views has been around long enough that you would think the taxonomy link structure would play nicely with views. Nope, it still doesn't out of the box. To date, that is my one and biggest complaint about Drupal. When I was looking for CMS packages, I tried Joomla but it was so bulky and confusing, I gave up. Ran across Drupal and haven't looked back. I agree it isn't the most user friendly, but it has a lot of power if you know how to tweak it. Back in my CMS choosing days, the amount of contributed plugins to the CMS was very high on my consideration list. Many CMS packages were sleek, clean and easy to use but only had a handful of contributed addins. Even back in Drupal 5 days, there were hundreds of modules available and it has only grown from there. In response to the "maintainers halfass writing a module then abandoning it": "Welcome to Open Source Mothafuka!" Open source (typically) means people write stuff on their free time. Things change, life gets busy, the "fun open source coding project" becomes boring or life takes people in a different direction. You're going to get those halfass modules, code and plugins in ANY open source software you use. Another note: Drupal isn't all about the software... It's about the community behind the software. It is one of the few places on the internet where people can say "Hey, I have a problem" and the people responding aren't bashing the person because a simple question was asked. They politely give the answer and move on. It isn't a collection of people who all think they have high IQ's, an ego bigger than Tony Stark and use the internet as their attempt of portraying alpha male dominance by attacking the "ignorant" because they weren't one of the "cool kids" in school. You ask a question in the Drupal support forums and people respond with a civilized answer. Why I wrote all of this, I have no idea. If I have grammatical or spelling errors, forgive me, I didn't proof read it.

What a Piece of SH!T. Inherited a site that was built in Drupal. I get constant notifications that it needs updates. They alway break the site. You can easily do anything in the site except use a standard word editor. As far as I can see that is the only easy thing in this POS software. You cannot easily find CSS files, the htaccess files always break, and something that should take 2 minutes takes 2 hours. I would'nt recommend this to anybody. Dreamweaver runs circles around this POS. Too bad most clients want to use a CMS of somekind. Drupal is NOT the FUC*!NG answer.

Drupal is not for amateurs or people with IQ < 130. Those people should stick to free blogging software from google etc. Or they can install wordpress/joomla etc, feel like a pro, and then get hacked and realize they shouldn't be playing a big boy game.

Drupal sucks: - 1000 and 1 rules you need to know before you can write single plugin (module). It is very very frustrating to start doing anything... - CMS users/editor need to read a book or at least a week of training to be able to Manage Content of the website - terribly slow performance of the CMS and website front end - one click generates 100-300 queries to database - cache is frustrating, even if you switch cache off in Admin panel it will still cache... - layout of the front end builds with 10000 divs, mixed up margins & paddings.... terribly long source code - page loads slower - browsers rendering slows down, uses more RAM, slower page scrolling - 10000 div layout is terrible for SEO - SEO is at the 0 level (scale 0 to 50), it would have been -1 but it has nice urls

dude, drupal is the best CMS outthere. I have build several sites with Drupal. YOu can create your template and reduce the number of divs. Seo is one of the best out there. What other CMS has better SEO? Maybe wordpress. But that is it. Joomla, you must be kidding me, half of the plugins are commercial. Why is the White House using drupal, BECAUSE IT IS SECURE AND THE BEST!!! Learn it more, I thought the same when I started learning Drupal.Once you go Drupal, you never go back, ha ha

Well it must be your site. Updates are really great, that way you can make your site secure and you get emails when there are new updates ready. There are numerous editors as plugins, CKEditor is my favourite. Yes it is not easy to learn, but using chat and forum support should help you a lot. The community is what makes Drupal the best. And it versatility and the way you can do a website in so many different ways with Drupal.

I have a VPS with 1gb of ram and 8 core cpu, and this is what i get when trying to install drupal. Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 43778048) (tried to allocate 4478 bytes) in /home/simplykl/public_html/includes/database.mysql-common.inc on line 34 WTF?

Druapal is readymade thing. It is just like your readymade clothes which have no guarantee that they were good. really drupal is not for good web developer. It's sucks your mind in fu**ing modules
