Usually, if you just take the picture with the camera and upload that image to your website, the picture does not look the same as if you are looking at the jewellery piece with your eyes. It looks different. So that is why you need to retouch and repair minor scratches, imperfections and improve color. The photographed images are too detailed. It needs retouching.
You have to have the right approach when doing high-end jewelry retouching. Some people rush with retouching. When you rush, the quality of your work always suffers. I remember once I retouched one diamond ring for almost 3 hours. The customer told me, look do this one right, time and cost do not matter. We need perfection. I told them this might take 3 hours and he was ok with it.
I see outsourcing companies in India doing a bad job because they always rush. They have that quota per hour to cover their costs. And they compete with everybody else with low prices. For high-quality jewelry retouch time matters. You can't rush the whole process. Every facet matters, every pixel matters in high-end retouch.
